Godzilla vs. Kong

03.31.2021 — Categories: , ,

In Godzilla vs. Kong (Warner Bros.), two of the biggest beasts in the monsterverse clash in the most destructive battle yet!  THE THIRD FLOOR LA collaborated with Director Adam Wingard and the filmmakers to help fuel the development and evolution of key sequences through early-phase visualization.  Artists worked on site with the director, creating pitchvis and previs to bring out his vision for scenes taking place from Hong Kong to Antarctica to the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The team worked on multiple epic action beats, also producing techvis as plans were laid out to capture shots, including aerial coverage, at an impressive and believable scale.

THE THIRD FLOOR’s Visualization Supervisor Shawn Hull touches on visualizing scenes with enormous creatures in real-world environments: “Scale of the characters was a constant challenge, as most shots had creatures of multiple different sizes interacting with humans,” he said.  “Another challenge was speed. To make the creatures’ movements feel realistic in the previs, we needed to consider their size and mass. Working out creature movement drove the camera timing that was visualized, as well as the distance that needed to be covered to get the shot. This provided the chance, as we worked with the filmmakers, to push the envelope to visualize some exciting camera moves.”

Stream Godzilla vs. Kong on HBO Max or see it in select theaters!
