Jingle Jangle

11.13.2020 — Categories: , , ,

In a tense countdown to Christmas, a toymaker (Forest Whitaker) and his granddaughter work to construct a magical invention in Netflix’s Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey. THE THIRD FLOOR collaborated with the filmmaking team to help lay the groundwork for various sequences through previs.

Several scenes center on a robot named Buddy, who uses his powers to make characters fly. Artists worked from storyboards, expanding story and action ideas through the previs process.

“We designed shots to enhance the storytelling, but midway through the process we worked on a storybook effect to transition between live-action material and book illustrations,” mentioned Visualization Supervisor Andrew McCully, THE THIRD FLOOR London.

Other scenes were tech’d to explore potential shooting and visual effects approaches as the children’s adventure further speeds up.

“Across several sequences, performances for the doll-sized Don Juan Diego were visualized using real-time motion capture to see a version of the character in the context of real actors and sets prior to final vfx creation,” remarked Global CTO and founder Eric Carney, THE THIRD FLOOR. “With Unreal Engine and NCAM, the live blocking could be overlayed and viewed on the video assist.”

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey rings in the Holiday Season on November 13th on Netflix.
