Picking up where its predecessor left off, L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties 2 follows the four countries of the Odin Mainland and their leaders, the seven noble lords, as they fight for control of the continent. Having worked on the first installment of the franchise, THE THIRD FLOOR returned to contribute previs to this fully digital sequel.
THIRD FLOOR LA Supervisor Andrew Honacker and three TTF storyboard artists flew out to China to work closely with Director of Photography Randy Che and Director Guo Jingming to discuss and help model their vision for each sequence.
“Once a sequence had been blocked out with thumbnails and shot lists, our storyboard artists went to work fleshing them out,” remarked Honacker. “At the same time, the stunt team began to develop the more complex action scenes and would provide edited video for us to use both as placeholders in the edit and for reference in our previs animation.”
The film’s rigorous three-month shooting schedule found THE THIRD FLOOR contributing over 1,000 shots of previs, totaling over an hour of action.
“Because of the complexity of the film’s scenes, every department needed to know exactly what was happening scene by scene and shot by shot in order to plan the process,” stated Honacker. “Previs was used to develop the story while defining lensing, camera movement, set dimensions and props that actors would interact with. The visualization also allowed the teams to determine when stunt performers or doubles would be used.”
