Making this our 5th collaboration in the Star Wars franchise, the trilogy of trilogies comes to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, under the direction of JJ Abrams. We follow Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron as they fight the final battle between the surviving Resistance and the First Order.
“One amazing aspect of the project was being a part of telling a fan favourite story in a new and interesting way. We were always looking to tap into the iconic cinematography of the franchise, bring it out for the audience and evolve it, ” said Visualization Supervisor Dave Edwardz.
For the final episode of the Star Wars saga, THE THIRD FLOOR deployed multiple Virtual Production artists within the client-side VFX team to analyze, design and export motion control solves for the on-set equipment.
“Several sequences, including the Speeder Chase, made use of hydraulic rigs,” said Virtual Production Supervisor Kaya Jabar. “These systems don’t have absolute positioning so we tested everything rigorously in the virtual world to ensure the ambitious moves would run smoothly when the shots were recorded on the physical equipment.”
Who are Rey’s parents? Does the Emperor return? Will there be a blossoming romance between Rey and Kylo Ren? Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is in cinemas internationally December 19th.
